CCUS technology in Changqing Oilfield has buried over one million tons of carbon dioxide~

As of now, Changqing Oilfield has buried 1.02 million tons of carbon dioxide in the past 8 years, breaking the historical milestone of one million tons, and has accumulated over 50000 tons of oil through carbon dioxide flooding. This marks the continuous upgrading of CCUS technology in Changqing Oilfield in practice, and is steadily moving towards more efficient, accurate, and scalable application value.

Injecting carbon dioxide underground as a medium for oil extraction can reduce carbon emissions while increasing oil recovery efficiency, which is 25% higher than traditional water media, "said Gao Chunning, Chief Technical Expert of Changqing Oilfield. Through continuous research and experimentation, Changqing Oilfield has overcome 15 key challenges in three major fields: oil reservoirs, injection production, and surface engineering. It has formed the "Changqing Model" with the core of carbon dioxide miscible displacement, anti-corrosion and gas channeling prevention, carbon dioxide recycling, low-cost carbon source supply guarantee, and safe and effective storage suitable for the "three low" oil reservoirs in loess plateau landforms. As of now, Changqing Oilfield has applied for 38 invention patents and revised 12 standards around CCUS technology, laying the foundation for the development of CCUS industry under similar reservoir conditions.

Currently, Changqing Oilfield is making greater efforts to promote the industrial development of CCUS technology. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, three million ton CCUS industrialization projects were deployed in the provinces of Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia. The CCUS-EOR test in Huang3 area of Jiyuan oilfield in Shaanxi province has been expanded to 11 injections and 47 extractions, with a project completion capacity of 100000 tons per year; Longdong Oil Region relies on the Central Enterprise CCUS Innovation Alliance to build a new model of efficient industrial collaboration. Currently, the "Longdong Million Ton CCUS Industrialization Plan" has been completed, and a 100000 ton CCUS pilot test injection will be carried out in 2026; The Ningxia oil region is exploring a government led, oil and gas production enterprise, and large-scale coal chemical enterprise cooperation model. The project has built an injection capacity of 400000 tons per year, and the overall million ton CCUS industrial layout of Changqing Oilfield has been basically formed.

From an ecological perspective, 1 million tons of carbon sequestration is equivalent to planting over 54 million trees. With the successive implementation of three million ton projects, the carbon sequestration of Changqing Oilfield is expected to achieve further breakthroughs in the next five years. Next, Changqing Oilfield will focus on the construction of three million ton demonstration projects, and continue to refine project construction according to three technical models: "tight oil area flooding, low-permeability gravity assisted flooding, and shale oil energy replenishment", to help achieve China's "dual carbon" goals.
