The project has finally been integrated and debugged, and after formal operation, it can greatly reduce the carbon emission pressure of the power plant. Recently, Zhang Jincheng, the general manager of Yangzhou Port Sludge Power Plant, happily told reporters before the first domestic sludge power generation carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) demonstration project located in Yangzhou Economic Development Zone.
The reporter was at the scene and saw a project installation on one side and a towering chimney on the other. You see, there is a power plant pipeline connecting our device ahead, "said Wang Feng, Deputy General Manager of Huacarbon Technology (Yangzhou) Co., Ltd., the investor of CCUS project. Following the direction of Wang Feng's finger, less than twenty meters away, there is a pipe with a surface coated with green paint and a diameter of about 20 centimeters. The pipeline runs through the roadbed of the power plant, crosses a drainage ditch, and connects to the CCUS project facility. This pipeline is used to input the captured carbon dioxide from the power plant into the facility for processing.
Standing at the project site, the buzzing sound of the motor running can be heard in my ear, smooth and agile. The project has entered the stage of intermodal commissioning, mainly recycling 9% -12% of low concentration flue gas generated by power plant units, capturing carbon dioxide in the flue gas, purifying it for resource utilization research. "Wang Feng introduced that the project is designed to capture 1000 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
In recent years, we have visited the CCUS industry in Guangdong, Shanghai, Beijing and other places to explore cooperation projects, but we have found that many downstream resource development and utilization technologies and markets are not mature. ”Zhang Jincheng said that in September 2024, Yangzhou Economic Development Zone and Jiangsu Industrial Research Institute will implement a "combination of allocation and investment" mechanism, and the "Third Generation Industrial Source Carbon Dioxide Capture and Resource Utilization" major industrial technology innovation project led by Professor Lu Shijian from China University of Mining and Technology will settle in Yangzhou Economic Development Zone. The demonstration project implemented by Huacarbon Technology this time provides a feasible path for the "carbon emissions" and "carbon value-added" of power plants from upstream carbon capture to downstream multi-dimensional resource utilization. Zhang Jincheng said that the project has reduced carbon emissions, increased income, and maintained the ecology, and the economic, ecological, and social benefits of power plants have been comprehensively improved.
The project is progressing intensively and will build a conceptual pilot platform. In the future, captured carbon dioxide can be converted into food grade dry ice, which can be used in industries such as food processing and cold chain transportation. It can also be used in conjunction with industrial solid waste such as fly ash, steel slag, and carbide slag to carry out mineralization utilization and prepare high value-added products such as nanoscale calcium carbonate, which can be applied in industries such as paper making, printing, and rubber to turn waste into treasure.
