At the Tianheng 2026 global launch event held in Munich, Germany on June 22, CATL (300750. SZ/03750. HK) unveiled the world's first field level sodium energy storage solution and launched the empirical sodium energy storage system Tianheng Sodium Energy. CATL also announced that its sodium based energy storage solutions and supply chain have reached a commercial level and will soon begin large-scale delivery.
CATL has previously stated that in the Chinese market, the company will deliver the first batch of sodium ion battery energy storage systems to customers in September this year, achieving GWh level shipments throughout the year. According to the latest disclosure, CATL's sodium electric energy storage system will start delivery in the global market in June next year.

It is reported that the maximum energy of a single device in Tianheng Sodium Electric Energy Storage System can reach over 30MWh, adopting a fully modular design concept that separates the energy and power compartments. This system can achieve a 1GWh station with only 34 sets of equipment, which means that project deployment is greatly simplified. At the same time, in terms of system configuration, energy and power are decoupled, supporting flexible configuration of energy storage durations of 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours.
The Tianheng Sodium Electric Energy Storage Station Platform is designed and developed specifically for sodium electric systems. In response to the voltage characteristics of sodium ion batteries, CATL has specially developed a Bi DC bidirectional voltage control system that matches PCS, which can always maintain the optimal operating conditions of PCS. In addition, a BMS system has been designed specifically for sodium ion energy storage systems, utilizing the characteristics of the sodium electric no platform voltage region and stronger overcharge capability to achieve more accurate SOC estimation and strategy.
In fact, CATL has been researching and developing sodium ion batteries for a long time, and currently sodium ion battery energy storage is accelerating from demonstration and verification to large-scale application. Lin Jiubiao, CTO of CATL's domestic energy storage solutions, stated at an exchange event in early June that CATL has invested nearly 10 billion yuan in the research and development of sodium ion batteries over the past 10 years. In 2021, CATL released the first generation of sodium ion batteries, and in 2025, it will launch a new sodium ion battery brand, CATL Sodium New. This year's focus is on energy storage, and we will promote the GWh delivery and application of sodium electricity in energy storage. ”
In April of this year, CATL and system integrator Haibosichuang (688411. SH) signed a strategic cooperation agreement for energy storage sodium ion batteries, and the two parties reached a 3-year cooperation agreement for a 60GWh sodium ion battery order. This is also the largest sodium ion battery order in the world to date.
It is worth mentioning that when targeting the European market, CATL also emphasized that Tianheng Sodium Energy Storage is the "world's first empirical sodium energy storage system". Not long ago, the Xiamen Empirical Energy Storage Technology Research Institute, invested about 3 billion yuan by CATL, was officially launched to the public. This platform is currently the world's largest and most complete energy storage system full scenario, one-stop testing and empirical platform
